Mr. Anthony Chuukwu receives “The Institution Builder Award” from D.C Mayor Vincent C. Gray on September 30, 2013 at the Howard Theater
The Institution Builder Award is one of seven Awards presented to prominent African Leaders in Diaspora in Washington, D.C.
In honor of African Heritage Month and the 50th Anniversary of the African Union, the DC Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (OAA) and the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities present the fourth Annual DC African Heritage Celebration. This celebration took place September 30 and included a reception and networking, remarks by Mayor Vincent Gray, and an award ceremony regarding a Tribute to Leaders of the African Diaspora recognizing seven exceptional leaders who made unique contributions to the cultural and economic renaissance of the District’s African community.
Other awards given include the Pan-African Bridge Builder Award, Arts Award, Cultural Education Leader Award, Institution Builder Award, Community Organizer Award, Business Leader Award, and the Public Service Award. After the award ceremonies, performances given included music, dance, art, and poetry from the African Diaspora.
