Web Construction Summer Youth Employment Program Information

Curriculum

The Citiwide Web Construction Summer Youth Employment Program will benefit students who want to learn how to us Dreamwever 8. Students will learn how to plan, define, and create a Web site; add pages and content; fomat text; create and apply CSS styles; create links and tables; manage images and other files; and publish a site. Students taking this course sould be comfortable using a PC and have experience with Microsoft Windows Vista. Students should have little or no experience with Dreamweaver.

Home Health Aid Summer Youth Employment Program Information

Curriculum

The CitiWide Nursing Assistant/Health Aide Summer Training Program will encompass the core competencies in the nursing assistant curriculum including classroom instruction, clinical and internship practicum for 60 youth to become eligible to receive a certificate as a Home Health Aide at the end of the 6 weeks program. In addition, integrated into classroom instruction will be soft skills lessons including basic computer literacy, basic interpersonal communication and decision-making skills, and professional etiquette. Participants may elect which session to attend.

* Participants must meet the following requirements to enroll in the program: 1) Must be at least 18 years old; 2) Must present their 11th or 12th grade report card; or 3) a copy of their high school diploma.

Topic Areas

  1. Introduction to Home Health Aide
  2. Communication Skills
  3. Observation, reporting and documentation of patient status and the care or service furnished
  4. Reading and recording temperature, pulse, and respiration
  5. Basic infection control procedures
  6. Basic elements of body functioning and changes in body function that must be reported to an aide’s
    supervisor
  7. Maintenance of a clean, safe and healthy environment
  8. Recognizing emergencies and knowledge of emergency procedures
  9. The physical, emotional, and developmental needs of, and the populations served by the home health aide (HHA).  This includes respect for the patient, his or her privacy, and his or her property
  10. Appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming

After School Program Information

Curriculum

Citiwide provides free after school instruction for up to 25 students between the ages of 5 and 13. The program begins at 3pm and ends at 6pm. This program is currently funded by Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation (CYITC), allowing the program to be free for our students. The students are guided through their homework assignments, and then provided with extra help in reading and/or math, per their parent's recommendation.
